We are seeking a talented and motivated Sous Chef to join the dynamic kitchen team at the National Wine Centre of Australia, an iconic Adelaide venue celebrated for its exceptional food, wine, and events, where you’ll play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality dining experiences across weddings, conferences, and functions in a creative and fast-paced environment.
About the National Wine Centre
The National Wine Centre of Australia (NWC) is one of Adelaide’s leading hospitality and event venues situated in the vibrant East End of the CBD, in close proximity to the emerging Lot Fourteen precinct and new hotels in the area.
Our unique architectural building is surrounded by the green space of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens and parklands and plays host to over 800 events per year attracting international, national and local visitors. Events include conferences, weddings, banquets, meetings and seminars.
The NWC is a showcase and focal point for Australia’s wine industry and as such, it has become a beloved landmark for food and wine lovers across the country who have engaged in the range of wine tourism and event experiences on offer.
About the Role
Reporting to the Executive Chef, a unique opportunity exists for an experienced, enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis in the role of Sous Chef.
The Sous Chef is responsible for supervising all kitchen staff, allocating duties, and supporting the Executive Chef with recruitment, training, discipline, and daily operational briefings. They oversee all aspects of food production, presentation, hygiene, safety, and equipment use to ensure consistent quality, compliance, and efficiency, while minimising waste and spoilage. The role also contributes to menu development, staying informed on seasonal produce and market conditions, and supporting special events and themed functions. Leading by example, the Sous Chef maintains discipline, standards, and a safe, well-organised kitchen environment.
The successful candidate will be creative and have the practical skills to ensure high quality delivery. The candidate will also possess the following attributes and capabilities:

- Possess good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Work well under pressure
- Have initiative and be self-motivated
- Have an in-depth understanding of Food and Beverage Operations
