A truly special place

wined bar tasting experience

The National Wine Centre, in the heart of Adelaide’s Botanic Gardens, is home to Australia’s national wine collection. Just a short walk from the city, the Centre offers wine lovers from around the world an unparalleled opportunity to learn more about Australian wines, and enjoy the rich diversity of varieties produced across the country.

The Centre opened in October 2001, and has won many architectural accolades for its distinctive design, and its use of natural light, metal and wood in its construction. From its rammed earth walls to its striking, NSW Blackbutt wood floors, the Centre conveys a real sense of a winery and a vineyard. The Centre’s curves and arches evoke the staves of the wood barrels used to age many of our best wines, and the rammed earth walls echo the soil of our vineyards.

The National Wine Centre of Australia is an award winning venue with award winning service. With six function rooms available, the Centre is able to cater for events from 10 to 1000 people. It’s a level of flexibility that makes us the ideal location for a wide range of conferences, dinners, awards ceremonies, parties and product launches.

Inside the Centre, visitors can learn about the fascinating world of wine by taking a self-guided Wine Discovery Journey. It’s an award winning experience that highlights the history and importance of the industry, and focuses on how to enjoy our diverse wines.

If you’d like to sample, we’ve 120 wines available for tasting, all dispensed from state-of-the-art Enomatic servers. You can then choose to buy a bottle of the wines you enjoy the most. The Centre is also home to the Southern Hemisphere’s largest wine cellar. The cellar can store up to 38,000 bottles, and many of these are available to purchase should you wish.

The Centre’s Wined Bar showcases the best local South Australian food. From small plates to sharing platters and from breakfasts to mains, our menu, created by Chef Judyta Slupnicki is available seven days a week, and is the ideal complement to a bottle of wine shared with friends.

Outside, the Wine Centre has its own vineyard - right in the middle of the city. Some of the nation’s most important varieties are grown here, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Semillon and Riesling. The greatest number of vines is given to Shiraz, the varietal on which our wine industry developed its worldwide
