Sisters in Print

August 1, 2023

Reprising signature etchings of KI renown studio printmakers created for NWC exhibitions annually since 2010.

Studio printmakers and sisters-in-law Jenny Clapson and Janet Ayliffe have created art together since graduating from South Australia School of Art in 1972.

Jenny is a highly respected and now retired artist whose paintings, linocuts and etching has been deeply inspired by the experience of living a rural lifestyle on Kangaroo Island for 40 years. Janet who was born on the island, where she lived for 18 years, is an award-winning printmaker and painter. Janet looks into the natural world with wonder and reverence, as she does with her inner life, combining and layering these in a unique visual expression. Both artists are represented in public and private collections in Australia and internationally.

For more than four decades the “sisters” have joined other studio artists to regularly work side by side to support each other. Since 2010 both have regularly exhibited Kangaroo Island themed etchings for the very popular “How Do We Love Thee?” exhibitions for SALA at the National Wine Centre, reprised in a special showing this year.
